Joe's Perspective

I’ve spent a lot of my life building businesses.

So when I sold the plumbing company I had built and operated, I knew what it felt like to start something from the ground up, build relationships with customers, solve problems and earn people’s trust.

What I wasn’t quite as sure about was what I wanted to build next.

I knew I didn’t want to simply find another business to run.

I wanted to do something I genuinely enjoyed.

That’s where photography came in.

Photography Was Always There

I’ve always loved photography.

It was one of those interests that stayed with me through the years, even when running a business took up most of my time.

I loved the idea of taking something ordinary and finding the right way to look at it.

The light.

The angle.

The details.

The way a photograph can make you notice something you might have otherwise walked right past.

Eventually, I started asking myself a pretty simple question:

Why not build something around something I genuinely enjoy?

That question led me to real estate photography.

Why Real Estate Photography?

I like the challenge of photographing a property.

Every house has something different going for it.

Sometimes it’s the architecture. Sometimes it’s the light. Sometimes it’s a kitchen, a view, a backyard or one small detail that gives the property its personality.

The challenge is figuring out how to show those things well.

That’s what interests me.

I’m not interested in simply walking into a room, pointing a camera at it and taking a picture.

I want to think about the photograph.

Where should I stand?

What should the viewer see first?

How does the light affect the room?

What makes this particular space interesting?

Those decisions are what make photography fun for me.

I’m Bringing My Business Experience With Me

While real estate photography is a new chapter for me, building a business isn’t.

Running my plumbing company taught me a lot about what customers actually expect from a service business.

They expect you to communicate.

They expect you to show up.

They expect you to do what you said you were going to do.

And when you tell someone you’re going to take care of something, they expect you to take care of it.

Those lessons don’t disappear just because I’m working with a camera instead of a toolbox.

If anything, they’re more important.

Real estate professionals are busy. They have clients, deadlines, showings, listings and plenty of other things competing for their attention.

The last thing they need is to wonder whether their photographer is going to be responsive, reliable or prepared.

I understand that.

I’ve been on the other side of the service relationship for a long time.

Building Something New Doesn’t Mean Starting Over

One of the things I’ve thought about a lot during this transition is the idea of starting over.

I don’t really see it that way.

I’m starting something new.

There’s a difference.

I’m bringing everything I learned from running my previous business with me.

I’m bringing the discipline that comes with being responsible for customers.

I’m bringing the importance of treating people right.

I’m bringing the understanding that your reputation is something you earn one customer at a time.

And I’m bringing a genuine love of photography.

That’s a pretty good foundation for a new business.

A Local Business With a Bigger Network Behind It

I’m building this business as a Hommati franchise owner, which gives me the opportunity to combine local service with the resources and technology of an established real estate media company.

That’s important to me.

I want clients to know they’re dealing with a local business and a real person, while also knowing that I have professional systems and resources behind me.

My primary territory covers Nassau and Suffolk counties, and I’m building my business around serving real estate professionals throughout Long Island.

As the business grows, I’m also able to work with clients on projects outside my primary territory when the opportunity makes sense.

The Next Chapter

I don’t know exactly where this business will take me.

And honestly, that’s part of what makes it exciting.

I do know what I want it to be.

I want to build a business around photography that I’m proud of.

I want to work with real estate professionals who care about how their properties are presented.

I want to provide the kind of service I always expected my own customers to receive.

And I want every photograph I deliver to have a purpose.

I’m fortunate to get another chance to build something.

This time, I’m building it around something I’ve loved for a long time.

Photography.

And I’m pretty excited about where this next chapter goes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did you choose real estate photography?

I’ve always had a love for photography, and after selling the plumbing company I previously owned and operated, I wanted to build my next business around something I genuinely enjoy.

Where do you provide real estate photography?

My primary territory includes Nassau and Suffolk counties. I also work with clients on select projects outside that territory when the opportunity makes sense.

Do you specialize in Long Island real estate photography?

Long Island is my primary market, including Nassau and Suffolk counties. I’m building my business specifically around serving the real estate professionals and properties in this area.

What did running a plumbing company teach you about photography?

It taught me that great service is about much more than the finished product. Communication, reliability, preparation and following through matter just as much.

What do you look for when photographing a property?

I look at the light, composition, perspective, architecture and the details that make each property different. My goal is to create photographs that show what makes the property worth seeing.

Are you affiliated with Hommati?

Yes. I’m a Hommati franchise owner. That gives me access to the technology, systems and resources of an established real estate media company while allowing me to operate as a local business.

Do you work directly with real estate agents?

Yes. My services are designed to help real estate professionals present their listings with professional photography and media.

Do you photograph properties outside Nassau and Suffolk counties?

My primary territory is Nassau and Suffolk counties, but I can take on select projects outside my primary territory depending on the location and project.

Why is professional real estate photography important?

The photographs are often a potential buyer’s first experience with a property. Good photography can help communicate the property’s layout, character, features and overall presentation.

How can I schedule a real estate photography shoot?

The easiest way to get started is to contact me and tell me about the property, location and services you’re looking for. We can take it from there.
